The vast collections housed in The New York Public Library's Stephen A. Schwarzman Building range from medieval manuscripts and ancient scrolls to contemporary novels and poetry, to newspapers from all over the world, baseball cards, dime novels, and comic books.
This set of six images, picked in honor of the Library's Centennial, is a very small representation of this treasure trove. Included are e.e. cummings's portable Royal typewriter, an original drawing by W.W. Denslow for Frank L. Baum's 1904 Wizard of Oz, a scene from a 1750 classic of Hindu literature, a ketubbah from 19th-century Calcutta, a 17th-century Japanese handscroll and, of course an 1850 map of New York City.
12 notecards feature 6 subjects, 2 of each photograph.
