The Reading Room Floor Lamp is an adaptation of those originally designed for the Library by Carrère and Hastings, the architects of the Library's landmark building on 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue, for its magnificent reading room.

The basic design of the original Reading Room lamp has been incorporated into a graceful floor lamp. The base and shade are solid brass with a hand-rubbed dark-bronze finish. The floor lamp conveniently adjusts by means of a simple thumb screw to a height of 50 to 60 inches tall; the shade measures 8 x 15 x 9 ¾ inches, and the base has a diameter of 11 inches. It takes two bulbs of up to 60 watts each; for brighter light compact fluorescent bulbs may be used.
