About The Library Shop at The New York Public Library: The first Library Shop opened in the mid-1980s in the Humanities and Social Sciences Library at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street. Since then the Library has added a shop specializing in Black history and culture at the Library's Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture on Malcolm X Boulevard at 135th Street in Harlem, and a web shop, offering our carefully selected books and gifts to people around the world. Every purchase you make here helps support The New York Public Library and its mission of providing free and open access to the accumulated wisdom of the world, without distinction as to income, religion, nationality, or other human condition. Returns and exchanges: If you are not completely satisfied with an item you purchased, please return it within 30 days along with your receipt and in the original packing materials if possible. There is no 3 day select to Alaska, Hawaii and APO. If you choose it we will charge you the ground shipping rate and send your order via USPS Priority Mail, as we do for Ground Shipments. For faster shipping to Alaska and Hawaii: UPS 2nd Day Air: add $30 to ground charge UPS Next Day Air: add $50 to ground charge International Order Shipping NEW International orders are now charged a flat rate for shipping, based on the cost of the merchandise. All orders will be shipped by your choice of insured International Express Mail, which the Postal Service estimates will take 3-5 days or International Priority mail which will take about 6-10 days for delivery once they receive the package. Oversize items such as Reading Room Lamps do not qualify for the flat rate. We will calculate the actual shipping costs and contact you for approval before filling the order. PLEASE NOTE: the postal service does place restrictions on international shipping of certain items such as gold and jewelry. These items may need to be sent via Registered Airmail Letter Post, or other methods as determined by the US Postal Service. We must comply with their shipping restrictions. We will inform you if an alternative shipping method is required. Also, our floor lamps are too large to ship internationally via USPS. We will need to calculate actual UPS shipping costs and will contact you for approval before we fill the order. There is no Next Day Air, Second Day Air or any other faster shipping method for International Orders. Please remember that we need two business days to process your order. These packages can be tracked by us via our shipping system, please email us if you need an update on the delivery status of your order. About Library Shop Gift Certificates Library Shop Gift Certificates are valid for one year from the date of notification messages, and can be used for any merchandise in The Library Shop. They cannot be used for Be sure to keep a copy of your Gift Certificate redemption code in order to use it on line. And please remember, this code is freely transferable, so you should protect it as if it were money. To use your Gift Certificate at The Library Shop, place items you want to buy in your shopping cart. At checkout time, enter your gift certificate code in the appropriate box. Make sure that you enter the complete code, starting with the "@" sign. If you've received more than one Gift Certificate for The Library Shop, you can enter multiple codes separated by commas. If the amount of the gift certificate covers the cost of your order, it isn't necessary to enter your credit card information. However, if the gift certificate amount is less than your entire order, the remaining balance must be paid by credit card. Your Gift Certificate can be used at our shop in the NYPL Humanities & Social Science Library in Manhattan by presenting the Certificate you received in the mail to the sales associate at time of purchase. All of the same conditions and limitations that apply on line also apply to Gift Certificates used in our Manhattan shop. Corporate Gifts: The Library Shop has a fine selection of items suitable for corporate gifts, and will gladly provide you with a price quotation for volume orders. Friends' and Corporate Members' Discounts: Friends of The New York Public Library receive a 10% discount on all purchases excluding gift certificates, gift wrapping, and shipping charges. Employees of the Library's Corporate Member companies receive the same discount with the same limitations. To use your discount, check the appropriate box on the order form and fill in your membership number if you are a Friend, and your company name and employee ID number if you are an employee of a Corporate Member company. Friends and Corporate Member discounts do not appear on your order form, but are taken after your membership is confirmed and your order is rung up, and appear on your receipt.
