More than 180 million of the original paper version, introduced in 1963, are dispensed by delis and street coffee carts every year. The designer of this ceramic version, founder of the environment-minded design group Exceptionlab, worked with the Sweetheart Cup Company and Aid to Artisans in bringing the cup from paper to ceramic. Cups made of lead-free earthenware, are microwave or dishwasher safe.
